The main train station is Liverpool Lime Street - Right in the centre of Liverpool getting you from London to Liverpool in just over 2 hours. Around £70 off peak return with Virgin trains or book in advance and take advantage of Virgins cheaper advanced tickets.
Liverpool's Concert Square and Mathew Street drinking areas are a 5-7 minute walk away from Lime Street station. If its raining it will cost you £5 in a taxi and that includes a tip, black cabs are always parked just outside the station.

If your traveling from the capital, head to London Victoria then walk down Buckingham Palace Road to the National Express coach terminal.
