Taupe, Newcastle’s resident punk/jazz/chaos maestros, release their second album Fill Up Your Lungs and Bellow on 24th February in advance of a UK tour (dates below).
The Tyneside Trio, now split between Newcastle, Manchester and Edinburgh and comprising Jamie Stockbridge on Alto Sax, Mike Parr-Burman on Guitar and Adam Stapleford on Drum Kit, enlisted the wisdom of experimental music legend and all-round top guy Chris Sharkey (TrioVD, Shiver, Acoustic Ladyland) to produce the record, a follow-up to their eponymous 2014 debut which was featured on BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction and led to a run of performances at jazz festivals and rock clubs the length and breadth of the country.

The album refines Taupe's metrically explorative constructions and avant-bop melodies, and juxtaposes this with increasingly brave interactive improvisations and sonic explorations. In so doing, Taupe cite influences from South Indian Carnactic music, the pounding polyrhythms of Meshuggah, the math-bop grooving of Steve Coleman’s M-Base movement and mischievous stompbox noise-wranglings.
